Choose a Ya-Ya name
Do you have a Ya-Ya name yet? In Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood,
the four Ya-Yas went out into the Bayou night where Necie, the Mistress
of Names, formally gave them all their Ya-Ya Indian names. Vivi was
Queen Dancing Creek. Caro was Duchess Soaring Hawk. Necie was Countess
Singing Cloud. And Teensy, who kept hers secret to the last, was
Princess Naked-as-a-Jay-Bird!
It’s true that we can’t choose our own name at birth, but we can name ourselves as a member of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood.
Please, take the time to visit the Ya-Ya message board, Gumbo Ya-Ya, and
scroll through the delightful and imaginative monikers our sisters have
chosen. You’ll find a smile and perhaps inspiration! Or you can use the
Ya-Ya Name Generator for more sparkling ideas.
Hold a Ceremony
Once you have name, it’s a great reason for a party to honor it. You can make it a solemn ritual or a warm, welcoming fiesta.
In Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood, the four girls
used oatmeal box drums, sat around a bonfire, and Necie sprinkled each
Ya-Ya with water from an old RC bottle. You can hold a ceremony like it
or dream up one of your own. The goal is to honor each other, welcome
your new name, and celebrate the glorious uniqueness of each one of you.
If your group members have created Ya-Ya headdresses, it’s a perfect
chance to wear them. But remember, there aren’t any hard and fast rules
-- except to embrace life and each other with compassion and joy!
Your Ceremony!
Be sure to take plenty of pictures and send one to us for the Ya-Ya Photo Gallery along with a report on how your Ya-Ya Naming Ceremony went. We always want to know what our Groups are up to!
