Race for the Cure
Ga Ga for Ya-Yas members PrincessTwinkleToes and Dancing YaYa Pimpress honored the memory of beloved friend Ginni Michek (Trace) as they joined countless other caring people in a fund raiser known as “Race for the Cure.”
In 1983, Nancy Brinker created the first Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation Race for the Cure® in Dallas, Texas with 800 participants. Today, the Komen Race for the Cure® Series is the largest series of 5K runs/fitness walks in the world.
In addition to raising funds, the Komen Race for the Cure® Series is committed to educating the public about early detection, the strongest method of surviving this life-threatening disease. The five-year survival rate is 95 percent when the disease is discovered while still confined to the breast. You can learn more about Race for the Cure at www.komen.org

Relay for Life Ya-Ya Style
Ya-Ya groups across the US are running and walking to save lives by raising funds for cancer research in the “Relay for Life.”
“Relay For Life” is a fun-filled overnight event designed to celebrate survivorship and raise money for research and programs for the American Cancer Society. During the event, teams of people gather at schools, fairgrounds, or parks and take turns walking or running laps. Each team tries to keep at least one team member on the track at all times. Learn more about this fund raising event.
Ga Ga for Ya-Yas member Princess of Flowers recently participated in an event that raised $1,100.00!

March of Dimes WalkAmerica
Long time Ga Ga for Ya-Yas member Lovie knows what it’s like to be the worried parent of a baby born too early. Her son spent weeks in a neo-natal unit following his premature birth last year. In an effort to “give back” for the support and help that she received, Lovie and her family banded together to raise more money for the March of Dimes than any other family team in the East Tennessee region!
As the March of Dimes biggest fund-raiser, WalkAmerica supports research and programs that help fight threats to the health of the 470,000 babies in the U.S. who are born too soon every year. Learn more about WalkAmerica.

Making Memories
“Making Memories” is an organization similar to the “Make a Wish Foundation,” except “Making Memories” grants wishes to adults with terminal breast cancer. Our very own Trace was granted a wish by “Making Memories.”
One of their main fundraisers is called “Brides Against Breast Cancer,” where they sell new and gently-used wedding gowns at highly reduced prices. Acinom & dbrown volunteered at a nearby Brides Against Breast Cancer event recently and are pleased to report that the event raised $20,000.
Dbrown tells us, “It was so much fun to be there. We got to help brides try on dresses, and also got to package the dresses that were purchased. Part of this process involved placing a small pink ribbon on the inside of the bodice of the dress. This is done so when a bride puts on her dress, she can remember where the money for the dress purchase went.”
”The best part of the day was when Acinom was flipping through the album of the wishes that had been granted, and there was a picture of Trace. It choked us up for a minute, and certainly reinforced our reason for being there.”
