How to Hold Your First Group Meeting

To all Ya-Ya Angels everywhere! We want your first Ya-Ya meeting to be
a beginning that is pregnant with hopes and possibilities. Below are
some tips to smooth the way and make the ground fertile, rich with the
blessings of our mother Earth and sprinkled with stardust. Remember,
we’re just helping to sow the seeds of the garden. Water it and let it
bloom -- lush and beautiful!
- Get the word out. Email, write, phone . . . the circle of
friends may be small or large, but we are joining hands to share our
strength and blend our voices.
- Consider Refreshments. Ya-Yas have an appetite for
everything from life to cheesecake. Ya-Ya Dahlin’s, you don’t have to
fancy it up or fuss unless you want to.
- Circle of Hopes and Dreams. Celebrate the moment by letting
every Ya-Ya sister share her hopes and ideas for the group -- whether
it’s to celebrate women’s friendships, be there for those in need heal
from an illness, take road trips, sail the seven seas, plan movie or
theater nights, or raise funds for charity.
- Choose a group name. Take a look and discover the delicious, soul-tickling names of Ya-Ya groups around the world. Then come up with the perfect one for yours!
- Discuss Nuts and Bolts. Discuss when you’ll meet (most Ya-Ya
Groups meet once a month or so), who will act as leader (rotation is
probably the best idea!), and where to hold the next meeting. And don’t
forget to set up telephone networking for Ya-Yas struggling with
illness or difficult days.
- Princesses and Her Majesties . . . help Find Ya-Ya names for members. Check out the page of suggestions at Ya-Ya Names and Naming Ceremony.
- Lists and Contacts. Get up-to-date contact phone numbers,
email addresses, and street addresses. Photocopy or email the contact
list for everyone. Consider adding birthdays. Imagine what fun it will
be for Ya-Yas to find a mailbox filled with cards and wild Ya-Ya gifts
on birthdays!
- Follow-Up. Have a chain to keep members linked by email or phone. Also extend invitations to others who might be interested in joining.
- Register please. Click here to register your Ya-Ya Group with us. Send a photo too! We want to know what Groups across the globe are doing!
