Dear Ya-Yas,
It's time to be uppity. It's time to speak out about Lyme. I ask you to join me in contacting your senators and representatives in support of the Lyme Bill which would provide sorely needed research money for this insidious epidemic which we must raise above the public radar.
The clock is ticking with Lyme, and we must set our sights on the passage of the current legislation if we want to help those families, individuals, and children who are suffering and dying from Lyme.
I hope you will help me in this effort and direct energies accordingly.
I have written my senators and representatives, and I ask you to do the same. Please feel free to follow up with phone calls! We need our public servants to vote for this bill. I know you will all step up and join me. (Vivi wanted to write a letter, but I told her that, unfortunately, fictional characters cannot vote, so she really shouldn't -- it would only confuse them!) But I DO encourage you to link hands with Vivi, Sidda, and all the citizens of the Ya-Ya Universe, and support this bill which is so important! Who will take my hand?
Thank you so very much.
84,000 Blessings,
Rebecca

Dear ______________
I am writing to you today with an important request. Please support H.R.3427 (Smith/Kelly) which was introduced on July 26, 2005. [Please support S.1479 (Dodd/Santorum) which was introduced on July 25.] . This bill addresses many aspects of research, surveillance, prevention and education which are desperately needed to help those already infected with Lyme disease and to prevent the spread of Lyme and other tick-borne diseases throughout our state, and in fact, throughout the country.
I have read language provided by other bills and recognize how clearly this bill was designed to help my loved ones, friends, and me. Its strong language and directives will ensure that the government agencies have a clear idea of the important tasks before them. Please ensure that they are properly funded to focus on stopping the spread of this dreadful disease and on helping alleviate the suffering of those already afflicted.
To that end, I am asking you, my congressman, to sign onto H.R.3427 as a bill sponsor.
[I am asking you, my senators, to support S. 1479 in the senate.]
Thank you for your kind assistance. I look forward to your support of this important bill.
Sincerely,
