Rebecca's
Full Moon Greeting
August 9, 2006
Ah, August! Summer glory, glory, glory! My girlfriend Tami just brought me over
150 dahlias from her extraordinary garden. Our house is FILLED with their
beauty and energy. They are in honor of family members coming up from Louisiana for a visit.
Many of us gather with family this time of year. Others of us are lonely. Many
of us struggle toward inner peace. Personally, I pray to invite joy into my
life, and to laugh more.
This month as I gaze at La Luna, I feel her shining down on all those suffering
from war and famine. The other day when I was having a hard time with this
beastly Lyme disease, my husband uttered a phrase that touched me to the core.
I now have it posted on my fridge. It reads "At least I'm not in Lebanon."
Today at my physical therapist’s office I was reminded of yet another truth:
there are those in war-torn countries that are ALREADY suffering from countless
diseases and handicapped.
As I gaze at La Luna, I cannot help but feel her compassion, her longing to
shine peace down on this hurting earth. I cannot help but feel my privilege at
living in a home where there is no fear of bombs, no fear of terrorists
arriving at the door. I live in a peaceful place, and it is my job to let that
peace into my heart and celebrate it!
So as we enjoy sweet corn, watermelon, fresh salmon, a green salad fresh from
the garden -- or just a hot dog with relish straight off the grill -- I hope we
will take a moment to give thanks, and to send up pink and blues to those for
whom peace is their biggest dream.
Pink and blues to y'all. May dahlias and sunflowers and full trees green with
leaves fill your eyes and invite your soul to deep joy.
84,000 Blessings,
Rebecca
PS: After I posted, I got to thinking. My little reminder of "At least we're not in Lebanon" could just as well read "Northern Israel," or many, many parts of Africa, or any other war-torn country. That I live in such a tranquil place when there are so many suffering is the point. The reminder is to be thankful and to keep my heart open to those of all races, religions, all brothers and sisters, who like you and I, just want to wake up in the morning, eat breakfast and have a day in which we recognize some joy.
Oh my, La Luna is effecting me tonight!
Take sweet care.
84,000 Blessings,
Rebecca
