It makes me so happy to welcome you to Ya-Ya.com. This website
has been around for 8 years now, and the community that has
developed is nothing short of inspirational to me. I am honored
that you have read my books and are logging on to see what the gang is
up to.
How privileged we are to be able to read and write and talk about
books, especially in a world where so many people don’t have this
luxury because they are dealing with the most basic survival issues.
Reading and writing can open our hearts wider than we ever thought
was possible. If I were to state what my basic aesthetic is, it
would be this: "Does a work of art constrict the heart or does it
open it wider?"
It is my hope to write books that open the heart wider. And
it’s my joy to witness women come together in community as they read
what I have written, and as they discover their own uniqueness.
I hope this website can be a place where you might find new friends,
where you might discover and declare your beliefs, where truth might be
spoken to power, where you might discuss everything from what you wore
on Saturday night to the war in Iraq. May this sight be a place
that embraces all viewpoints with respect. May a spirit of Ya-Ya
and the Holy Lady who visited Siddalee in the opening of Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood
bless the communication here so that all stories have room to be told:
those of joy, those of pain and suffering. May we imagine this
house big enough to hold it all: the silliness, the impassioned
political beliefs, the day-to-day miraculous in the mundane.
In a world filled with terror, may this website be a place where
love is chosen over fear, where we find the sisterhood we all long for.
Thank you for reading my books. Thank you for allowing me to
participate in the most intimate relationship that exists between
writer and reader. In silence, I write. You hold the book in
your hands and the story and the characters come alive as your eyes
meet the world on the page. As your heart meets mine and something
new is created. More than anything, I sometimes think that that
this website is evidence that "of the creation of books there is no
end."
Have fun. Think pretty pink and blue thoughts. And know that I send you 84,000 Blessings!
